A Glimpse of India | Nanaimo BC | July 8 2023
We want to congratulate Ms. Suki Sangha of Vancouver Island Bhangra (ViB) for her second annual A Glimpse of India event. She has years of Bhangra experience from the mainland. She married and moved to Nanaimo and her passion was to build Bhangra! It was one of the best outdoor Indian festivals (a lot of Bhangra, Punjabi singing, Bollywood, South Indian Classical Dance, the live Band was so amazing, many were professionals from the mainland). I was also so proud of our Bhangra Jiwani team led by Ms. Malika Bains and Ms. Manvi Sharma, and we are so thankful to the mom’s and dads who joined. It was also very nice to celebrate my birthday here.

Celebrating diversity and inclusion through song, dance, and speech. In commemoration of Human Solidarity Day and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. We were honored to be invited to perform at this special event. We are forever grateful to the world renowned work they have done with their passion for singing. Mr. Peter Brimacombe we have known as a “father” figure to Shan-e-Punjab, with 60 students in 1996, he opened the doors to the residences of St. Margaret’s School, to allow SEP to teach and soon after the residences became home including a place to hold summer cultural camps from 1997-1999.

We acknowledge and thank the WSANEC people whose traditional territory we live, learn and teach. The WSANEC people have lived and worked on this land since time immemorial. Students can enrol in Spainish, French or Punjabi as their language of choice in post secondary school, we have great respect for the ground breaking work Mrs. Amandeep China is doing as a Punjabi Language teacher, at Princess Margaret Secondary High School (she also teachers other courses such as Science). The website for the Heart & Stroke Foundation - Our Health is Our Wealth is below. The TV Commercials aired starting on Monday Oct 15th, on the OMNI TV channel during the Punjabi news hour. This was truly a community effort in health promotion and S.E.P. was a very important piece in the reception part of the taping - the wedding was entirely taken in Vancouver.
